A Monster Unleashed - “The Night the Monster Caught Me”
Author Elizabeth Newton invites young readers to be in the shoes of Nate, a mischievous kid who had a visit from a monster who came to his room one night, looking for superhero toys, and that was just the beginning of this bizarre adventure - “The Night the Monster Caught Me.”
There was a boy named Nate who is very talkative. Regardless of where he is, be it at the cafeteria or the classroom, Nate talks about anything and everything. He shares his ideas with anybody no matter what. His teacher has a behavior chart with paper frog cut-outs; each color represents a behavioral state.
The colors are green, yellow, and red for bad behavior. No matter how many times her teacher warned him, mischievous Nate couldn’t stop talking until her teacher got annoyed and gave him the red frog until the class dismissed him. Nate’s teacher, Mrs. Green, told him that she will inform his mother about his behavior at school. Nate got upset about what happened because Mrs. Green doesn’t want him to talk too much in the classroom. There are instances where he lied to his mom that it was a green frog day, but unknown to Nate that his teacher already spoke with his mom, then he cried, realizing the trouble he’s into. Then that night, he had a bad dream that a monster went into his room then went looking through his toys and started screaming… (to be concluded once you read the book). From that night on, he learned a very important lesson about disobedience, lying to your parents, and other misdemeanors.
The style of writing is perhaps the most interesting presentation in this book. Young audiences can also practice reading comfortably at their own pace while being able to understand the story, which is a must for all storybooks. All the illustrations are hand-drawn by Patrick L. Newton. There are also puzzles and word search exercises at the end of the material, making it compelling for young readers, not just sharpening their reading skills. This storybook is a great pick-up and a good addition to your family library.
