Travellers to seek wider choice of airlines post-pandemic

London – WEBWIRE
  • Independent poll shows that nearly 6 out of 10 travellers plan to discover a wider choice of airline and accommodation providers for future bookings

  • Over half of travellers (52%) value price the most in the booking process, followed by convenience of route (29%)

As the conversations around summer travel continue, new data from independent research firm OnePoll reveals what consumers will value most when booking future travel plans.

Overall, the findings show that nearly 6 out of 10 respondents globally stated they will be seeking a wider choice of airline and accommodation providers to book with in comparison to pre-pandemic. With just one in ten travellers (13%) set to prioritise an airline brand when booking their next trip overseas. Price is still important to consumers, with over half (52%) indicating they place greatest value on securing a good price for their trip.

With consumers now seeking more choice, the eDreams ODIGEO OTA model becomes even more relevant for travellers as it enables them to access the entire global travel market in a one-stop-shop.  This also benefits airline and accommodation providers as they can sell seats and rooms to customers who are less loyal to a particular airline and hotel brand than pre-pandemic and more likely to compare and combine different travel providers for a summer holiday.

Post-pandemic traveller preferences

The data shows that travellers want to consider a wider choice of airline brands and accommodation providers when booking their future travel plans (59%). This presents an opportunity, as the industry recalibrates post-pandemic, for travel companies, airlines and accommodation providers to meet the needs and preferences of these new customers. The range of accommodation options and flights available via an OTA such as eDreams, Opodo, GO Voyages and Travellink makes them well-positioned to meet this growing consumer preference. eDreams ODIGEO, who surveyed 10,000 adults from eight countries to understand traveller priorities post-pandemic, is an OTA that can cater to this shifting consumer preference with over 650 airline partners and 2.1 million accommodation providers available on its platform, while its technology offers 274,000 flight options in 2021, 94% more than booking direct, and is capable of providing 3,000 travel plans every 5 seconds.

Pablo Caspers, Chief Travel Officer at eDreams ODIGEO, commented, “We have spent time over the last 12 months ensuring we are well-positioned to cater to post-pandemic traveller priorities.

Travel is expected to resume in some capacity this summer and with nearly 6 out of 10 travellers globally stating that they will value having a wider choice of airline and accommodation providers to book with than pre-pandemic, we are best placed to respond to this growing traveller appetite.

“With airlines having cancelled millions of flights over the past 12 months, most travellers want a wider choice of airlines to consider and will select carriers that have proved to be reliable and customer-centric during the pandemic.

“After a year of disruption and national lockdowns people are keen to plan trips abroad, but they are assessing more than the flight time, outbound airport and holiday destination. Travellers are  looking for competitive fares,  convenient routes, flexible booking policies, Covid-19 insurance cover and hygiene scores and this is where we excel.”
