Nasal Spray Sold Nationwide Recalled Due to Potential Yeast Contamination

Recently, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) posted information about the recall of a nasal spray to the consumer level due to yeast contamination concerns. The product is used to moisturize and clean nasal passages and sinuses of irritants and other environmental contaminants. The one lot that is part of the recall has an expiration date of October 2023 and was sold nationwide in the United States by a major online retailer.
According to the risk statement in the recall notice, the use of the nasal spray contaminated with yeasts, in the population most likely to use it (children, adults and elderly), may result in adverse events that necessitate medical or surgical intervention. However, use of this contaminated product in immunosuppressed individuals may result in life threatening invasive fungal infections.
