Berlinale 2021: Announcement of the Jury Decisions

During the Industry Event (March 1 to 5) of the 71st Berlinale, the Juries of the Competition and the sections Berlinale Shorts, Encounters and Generation will announce their award decisions. The juries, who are currently in Berlin, will see the films in a cinema.
The award decisions will be announced via a video presentation (www.berlinale.de/live,facebook.com/berlinale, youtube.com/berlinale) of the juries, followed by a press release.

The festive Award Ceremony will then take place at the Summer Special (June 9 to 20).

Berlinale Shorts
Jury: Basim Magdy (Egypt), Christine A. Maier (Austria), Sebastian Urzendowsky (Germany)

Generation
Jury: Jella Haase (Germany), Mees Peijnenburg (Netherlands), Melanie Waelde (Germany)

Encounters
Jury: Florence Almozini (France), Cecilia Barrionuevo (Argentina), Dietrich Diederichsen (Germany)

Competition
Jury: Ildikó Enyedi (Hungary), Nadav Lapid (Israel), Adina Pintilie (Romania), Mohammad Rasoulof (Iran), Gianfranco Rosi (Italy), Jasmila Žbanić (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

The closure of Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport has been extended until March 6 and the Israeli authorities have to give permission to travel on a case-by-case basis. The Berlinale deeply regrets that Nadav Lapid will not be able to travel to Berlin. He will therefore view the screenings online in Tel Aviv.

“I was happy, of course to get an invitation to be a member of this year’s Berlinale International Jury, a special jury in this far from normal moment. The current situation made it, in a way, even more necessary. Unfortunately, though I was led to believe there was a likelihood that I could travel since other special cases were approved, my request for permission was refused. I was very surprised by the decision of the government. Like my fellow jury member Mohammad Rasoulof, I will watch the Competition’s films at my place - here, in Tel Aviv - and will play an active part in the decision making. It goes without saying that I’m curious and thrilled to discover the selection, looking to find innovative, adventurous, urgent and beautiful movies,” says director and jury member Nadav Lapid.
