BRF, one of the largest food companies in the world, continues its process of digital transformation, and advances in yet another stage in the implementation of technologies for the digital monitoring of its fleet. As part of the Health and Safety Program, drivers have benefited from technological resources, which guarantee a reduction in accidents and a decrease in the loss of accidents by the Company. The intelligent use of data is one of the most important characteristics of Industry 4.0.

One such case is the use of embedded technology, through telemetry and a fatigue sensor, to improve the safety of drivers. In 2019, reflecting these and other actions, BRF evolved in the area’s indicators with a 9% reduction in accidents, in addition to a 44% drop in loss compared to 2018).

Logistics is an area of attention, given the high volume of travel that employees and third parties carry out in the transport of products and raw materials. The Company maintains the HSE Transport Program (Health, Safety and Environment), where all partners are evaluated according to indicators and are subject to corporate HSE standards, in addition to being subject to driver assessment criteria and logistical excellence.

“Before the digital transformation, fleet management was deficient due to the lack of visualization and prioritization tools, in addition to the delay in the billing process. With the arrival of technology, monitors for the management of logistical operations aim at reducing the length of stay at the units, providing tools to automate the calculation of the payment of daily rates and the billing process ”, emphasizes José Perottoni, Director of Logistics of BRF.

Management and Automation System

The benefits resulting from this initiative involved the Yard Management System, integrated with the ERP, which receives information from the load planning, subsequently managing the vehicles within the unit. The daily rate is requested on the platform available to the carrier and then the automation of the calculation of the daily cost and payment with the carrier for cost management is performed.

Automation carries out the entire billing process for the trucks to leave the units, also enabling their simplification to carry out various transactions in just one click. The monitor also controls the postings and additional cost calculations.

Digital Transformation in Joint Action

For the development of fleet automation, BRF mobilized five work areas: Operations, Planning, HR, IT and Finance. 1,300 people were trained in 132 classes and a total of 15 thousand hours of work.

The company also works with other projects under development, such as the use of Advanced Analytics for statistical analysis management, using data generated from the development of the Logistics 4.0 project with tools such as chatbotmachine learning and artificial intelligence.

“All of these technologies have a direct impact on BRF’s results, allowing production and supply to operate in an increasingly effective and intelligent way, in addition to bringing cost competitiveness to the production chain”, concludes Antonio Cesco, Technology Director at BRF information.
