“Waiting for the Messiah” begins with a truck salesman’s proposal on creating a Jewish boarding school amid a small Jewish community in Bolton, Pennsylvania. They turn an old retirement home into an educational institution, select a Russian refugee with a scholastic background to direct it, and hire the retirees to be the staff. The change is welcomed and celebrated, opening a new revelation to the future Jewish children in this little town. But, some things that most of them never dared to think of begins to unravel.
 
“Our lives are a pile of acts, benign and banal, unique in a way but undistinguished.” Such acts are ever-present in Greene’s characters, just as he points them at the beginning chapters.
 
The school director, Lev Kyol, staggered the world when he welcomes a Palestinian boy to his Jewish school, inaugurates a celebratory Palestinian Day inside a Jewish community, and even organizes a fundraiser for a Catholic Hostel in the name of the Jewish people. This brings in a series of differing reactions – from a teacher’s scheme to deport the director, to the media’s craze of the Messiah’s second coming, and even from the story’s very own narrator’s varying thoughts.
 
The author manages to create a story that is both satirical and panegyric, weaving the best and the worst of society and humanity. “Waiting for the Messiah” is a delightful read full of the beautiful and the inspiring, the humorous and the pathos, the questions, and perhaps, their answers.
 
Whether the tale truly parallels the coming of the second Messiah, the book will push you to look into your conscience and find the human within. What does it truly take to understand equality and accept differences?

About the Author:
Of Sheldon Greene’s six novels, five draw strongly upon his experience with and knowledge of the Jewish faith. Ranging from fact-based history to flights of imagination, he uses his novels to explore such subjects as Jews in the American Revolution, Jewish influence on pre-Colombian culture, the Israeli War of Independence, and the impact of the Holocaust on creativity.

Greene was appointed Warden of Insurance of the State of Ohio at age 23. A public interest lawyer, he pursued seminal issues―such as the United States’ flawed health delivery system, the impact of illegal immigration on the economy, renewable energy, and public land policies―decades before they achieved national attention. He was a participant in the first Obama national policy team for both immigration and energy

He was one of the founders of the New Israel Fund and helped formulate its unique structure, drawing on his experience as General Counsel of California Rural Legal Assistance. He is an executive in a wind energy development company and has been actively engaged in renewable energy for over 25 years.
