CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union Members to Donate $5,000 in Food and Funds to Local Food Banks

Alexandria – WEBWIRE

“People Helping People” is the principle foundation of CommonWealth One’s core values and the cornerstone of the credit union movement.

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union has launched its Winter Food Drive, with a goal of donating $5,000 to organizations serving local residents.

The effort started on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which is traditionally the credit union’s Day of Service. Now through Feb. 25, 2021, CommonWealth One and its members are raising $5,000 in food donations and in financial contributions to benefit food banks.

In the greater Washington, D.C. area, CommonWealth One is supporting the Capital Area Food Bank, and in the Harrisonburg, Virginia area, CommonWealth One will be contributing through Mercy House. Since the coronavirus pandemic started, both organizations have seen a significant increase in residents needing food assistance.

The credit union is collecting nonperishable foods at its Main Branch at 4875 Eisenhower Ave. in Alexandria, at the Richmond Highway Branch at 6201 Richmond Highway in Alexandria, and at 42 Terri Drive in Harrisonburg. In addition, CommonWealth One has made it easy for members to donate financially through COFCU.org.

In addition, in February, members will be able to enter to win a $100 savings deposit plus $100 donated in their name to Capital Area Food Bank or Mercy House.

“People Helping People” is the principle foundation of CommonWealth One’s core values and the cornerstone of the credit union movement. This philosophy has shaped the way COFCU does business, from the products and services they offer members to community service efforts like this one.
