Bloomberg Intelligence Unveils Inaugural “BI100” List of Top Investment Ideas to Watch for 2021

Public companies, credits, market strategies and ETFs lead the BI100

New York – WEBWIRE

Bloomberg Intelligence (BI) today unveiled its report, “100 Investment Ideas to Watch for 2021” (BI100), which identifies the global public companies, credits, market strategies and ETFs that BI analysts believe will face significant fundamental catalysts and developments in 2021. This represents an expansion from BI’s traditional 50 companies to watch that are featured every year in the Bloomberg Businessweek The Year Ahead issue. It specifically analyzes how critical themes such as green recovery, smart healthcare, and digital transformation will be impacted by public health and policy changes.

As international markets and institutions are navigating the ongoing pandemic, as well as major political transitions across the globe, the BI100 aims to provide a globally inclusive portfolio and outlook for 2021 to both the business and investor community alike.

Bloomberg Intelligence Global Director of Research David Dwyer said: “At a chaotic time when the Covid-19 pandemic is upending entire industries and causing extreme market volatility around the world, the BI100 provides investors with analysis of where key industries and financial products may be headed throughout the year. Using detailed yet accessible language, our analysts help investors at any level understand the current landscape of business. The list is supported by much more detailed analysis and data on the Bloomberg Terminal.”

Highlights and themes from the report include:

  • Green Recovery: Renewables are poised to benefit from the conditions created by the pandemic and the international economic crisis which has opened the possibility for over a $3 trillion stimulus dedicated to a green recovery. For example, the report scrutinizes BP’s climate and emissions targets, which are the most aggressive in the oil industry, and outlines how Biden’s infrastructure plan could impact NextEra Energy Inc., the dominant U.S. generator of wind and solar power.
  • Post-Covid Recovery: From the travel industry to real estate and energy, Bl identifies specific companies that are set to both grow and decline as the economy recovers from the pandemic. Analysts believe that Tenet Healthcare’s profits may surprise later in 2021 given its recent influx of surgeons, while some transportation companies like Cathay Pacific and Central Japan Railway are riskier bets.
  • Digital Transformation: Beyond the communications and e-commerce companies that have become household names throughout the pandemic, BI believes some cloud security software, hardware and digital payments enterprises may be poised for growth in 2021. For example, BI analysts believe Cisco Systems’s years-long commitment to upgrading its software stands to benefit from the changing dynamics of corporate work, and that PayPal – the digital wallet market leader “by far” – can sustain its 20%-plus growth.

Bloomberg Intelligence’s Chief Equity Strategist Gina Martin Adams said: “As markets look to the fits and starts of the emerging economic recovery and additional stimulus from U.S. policymakers to drive the overall trend, the BI100 offers analysis focused on data and deep industry expertise to identify enduring opportunities for the year ahead. This report serves as a guide to actionable insights in a pivotal year that will change how and where people work, how individuals and companies will be taxed, and which industries will thrive in the post-pandemic economy.”

Bloomberg Intelligence’s team of over 350 analysts spent months evaluating and assessing over 2,000 public companies across 135 industries to devise the BI100. Bloomberg Businessweek just published its “50 Companies to Watch in 2021,” based on the BI100.
