Overcoming Barriers and Obstacles in Life

Author Anne Davey Koomans invites readers to experience the life of a patient having Polio

This is a heart-wrenching story about David Davey, a 12-year old Polio patient who survived nine months in the hospital.

When Dave was studying at Wayne State University, he realized that God had a plan - a purpose for his life. His work as a Member of the National Barrier Free Architectural and Transportation Board with Senator Bob Dole, helped pave the way for the creation of the standards for the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990.

His story is an inspiration to millions of people worldwide as they read of problems resulting from the Polio, and will be encouraged to read how he helped to educate the public and developed programs to help lead Polio victims to victories. He and Anne share experiences: Imagine checking into the barrier-free room of a nice hotel and awakening in the night to learn there are hundreds of poisonous Black Widow Spiders on the walls and ceiling; They returned to the ship and learned the wheelchair accessible entrance was accidentally closed hours before. The crew’s plan to get him aboard made the ship leave port hours later; The family spent a night in the New York penthouse where John Kennedy stayed on the night he learned he was just elected President of the United States. A lot of laughs and frustration there.

There were challenging times when Dave was at his lowest point in life - where God lifted him out of death’s door to new heights of victory and fame. God gave him a Christian family and people during his lifetime to help overcome life’s problems.

Their stories are well-written and documented by the author. If you are courageous and motivated to share their unusual encounters, and if you are into real-life experiences that bring positivity to your well-being, this read is definitely for you.

Put yourself in their shoes as you take the most colorful journeys Dave and Anne ever had. It is a must-read and a delightful addition to your collection or library.

About the Author
The youngest of six children, Anne was born at home during a snowstorm that closed the roads. She was raised in New Richmond, a small Indiana village of less than 400 residents. Anne’s family sat around the table after dinner, telling stories. One person started a story and each person had to add a paragraph until someone would come to a good ending. Sometimes it was a love story; sometimes a mystery; sometimes a travel vacation; sometimes everything had to be rhymes. Her teachers encouraged her to write. Anne Davey received her first copyright in 1994 for her Christian drama “Witness of the Innkeeper.” She has performed this forty-two-minute drama over 200 times in many countries, states, aboard ships, at schools, churches, and nursing homes. Traveling and photography with family and friends to forty-nine states (sorry North Dakota), and cruises and flights to more than fifty countries and islands have provided fond memories. Anne has taken photos and movies from the wheelchair lift on Dave’s van, helicopters, hot air balloons, planes, or lying on her back to get unique shots of light houses, Notre Dame Gargoyles, and many other positions needed to get the photo she wanted. Being in God’s will for her life has always been her greatest desire.
