Wintershall Dea signs lease for planned move to HafenCity

-European gas and oil company plans with a new quarter in Hamburg
-Modern and flexible working at a central city location
-Building at Überseering has been sold

KASSEL/HAMBURG – WEBWIRE

Wintershall Dea is planning a new quarter in Hamburg. Its future location in Hamburg would be right in the city centre at Lohsepark in the east of HafenCity. The move is planned for the second quarter of 2022. The office building at “Überseering” in City Nord has now been sold to the Hamburg real estate company Becken.

After the merger of Wintershall and DEA in May 2019, the current office building in City Nord with its 1,000 workplaces had become too big. The company was therefore looking for a new office building in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. The planned future location in HafenCity offers space for employees at the company headquarters and at the business unit responsible for business in Germany (Business Unit Germany). Around 500 employees in headquarter functions and at Business Unit Germany will continue to work in Hamburg.

The new office building, planned by a Hamburg investor and currently under construction, with its extremely central location, meets Wintershall Dea’s needs for modern office workplaces. With its ideal link to public transport (U4 line, HafenCity Universität station) and its proximity to the central station with ICE connections, it is very easy to reach by public transport. In addition, around 150 bicycle parking spaces, and charging facilities for e-bikes and e-cars are available to the employees. That means the new location also meets requirements arising from changed mobility needs in cities. The new office building is exemplary in terms of energy consumption and is being built according to the standard of the HafenCity Platinum Ecolabel – a certification system for especially sustainable construction.

“With the new office building at Lohsepark in HafenCity, to be rented on a long-term basis, we have found offices that suit Wintershall Dea,” CEO Mario Mehren is convinced: “It offers modern office work places at a central location that enable collaborative working – also especially with a view to hybrid working models for the time after the coronavirus pandemic.”

Wintershall Dea’s current office building at Überseering 40 in City Nord was the company’s headquarters for more than 40 years. The sale price was not disclosed.
