Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts to Implement Thomson Reuters Digital Evidence Center

Cloud-based exhibit and evidence sharing platform will help courts to eliminate backlogs caused by the pandemic, enhance access to justice and expedite the digital transformation of the courts

TORONTO – WEBWIRE

Thomson Reuters  announced that Digital Evidence Center, its leading cloud-based court exhibit and evidence sharing platform, will be implemented, with immediate effect, in all courts in the state of Arizona. The platform, which was formerly known as CaseLines, enables courts to facilitate virtual, in-court and hybrid hearings more efficiently, and will ensure improved and continued access to justice for the people of Arizona throughout the pandemic. The adoption of Digital Evidence Center also expedites existing efforts – accelerated by the pandemic – to transform the way that courts operate, with the elimination of paper-based systems and digitization of court processes set to continue once the pandemic ends.

Digital Evidence Center enables all parties in a case to organize, share and present documentary and multimedia exhibits and evidence effortlessly and securely in a single secure system, removing the challenges faced when sharing by traditional methods such as e-filing, email or other unsecure methods. The platform also empowers pro se litigants, enabling anyone with access to a phone and internet connection to be securely invited to upload to the case file.

All parties can access the latest exhibits and evidence, and presentation tools ensure quick movement of the participants to the right documents and media evidence as a hearing progresses. Existing customers report that up to 50% fewer hearings are required to conclude a case, as well as reduced hearing times and the elimination of backlogs caused by the pandemic.

“For several years, we have been looking at the best ways to manage digital evidence and how to present this in a courtroom,” said Dave Byers, Director of the Administrative Office of the Arizona Courts. “The pandemic has brought this issue front and center and has created urgency. Arizona prides itself on being on the cutting edge of innovation within the Courts and the engagement with Thomson Reuters will help us manage the backlog of cases in the court system, better manage virtual hearings, and allow us to establish a digital evidence system.”

“The courts have had to pivot drastically to confront the challenges of the pandemic,” said Steve Rubley, President of the Government Segment of Thomson Reuters. “The pandemic has shown that the court process has changed forever. The court system needs a solution that can offer secure, collaborative access, meet the demands of remote working and streamline the court process. We are thrilled to be working with the state of Arizona to help them maintain access to justice and eliminate backlogs in the court system.”
