“Our mission is to try to help those on planet earth direct their attention, at least one day a year, toward their creator and what he has done for us. We accomplish this task by doing caring and fun things in such a way that everyone can participate. Their attention may be toward nature and its gift of life, or towards the savior and his giving of his life for us so that we may have the gift of life. Or their attention may just be placed towards the family having a fun-filled day with

Writer and veterinarian Walter R. Hoge celebrates the strength of a brave and giving heart in “Easter: McEaster Valley.” He encourages readers to reflect at the majesty of Mother Earth in this brief tale and imagine the perfect life of service without compensation. Hoge’s book encourages readers to consider ways to make decisions based on the inherent order of things in their lives, rather than individual ones based on whims or desire. Dedicated to his children, Hoge’s universal message is that, yes, the richest life anyone might expect to live is a life of responsibility without any hope of benefits or monetary gain.

This unique and earthy tale is reminiscent to William P. Young’s The Shack, in that it was written to the authors’ children and that it serves as a parable that there is more to life than glitter and gold and that sometimes, the places where people get lost are exactly where they need to be. What distinguishes Hoge’s fable is that it excites the imagination and conjures wonderment in the natural world in all its simple complexities. Whatever it is Hoge found in McEaster Valley, he shares with his readers this: If humans respect the community in which they live, take care of planet Earth, and learn more about its nature, it may well yield clues that will aid humanity in living healthier, happier lives.
