UNIST announced that it has been recognized for its disaster and safety preparedness capacities, and thus presented with a commendation from the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT).

At the 2020 National Safety Assessment Evaluation, organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT, UNIST was awarded the Excellent rating. Besides, UNIST has also been highly commended in recognition of its exemplary practices in disaster and safety preparedness.

The Nationwide Safety Diagnosis, promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is an activity to conduct assessments of the national infrastructure and social safety management system from various points of view, such as those of the central and local government officials, the public, and civilian experts, by working together.

UNIST also undertook this nationwide initiative from January to July 2020. Efforts have been made to establish disaster and safety management systems on campus and to prescribe matters necessary for disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and activities for safety culture through public-private partnerships.

UNIST first obtained the Excellence rating in the 2017 National Safety Assessment Evaluation. Since then, UNIST has maintained its excellence for four consecutive years. This year, for the first time, UNIST has been presented with a commendation from MSIT. Mr. Hyobin Pyo, a member of the Safety Management Team at UNIST was also awarded a commendation medal for his work by MSIT. This award of honor has been given to Mr. Pyo in recognition of his contribution in response to the Emergency Preparedness Training, implemented by MSIT.
