However, like a harbinger of bad news, they were awakened by the loud cry of DJ, who at that time was fiery hot because of fever. Lab tests confirmed that DJ was suffering from meningitis. This had changed his and Karen’s life forever. The infection caused adverse effects in DJ’s mental development.

However, Karen embraced the challenge thrown her way. With resilience, faith in God, and love for DJ, she narrates a story that demands inspiration.

Karen Pettaway is a wife, mother of three and a full-time caregiver to her son. She is the director of a non-profit organization for young adults and adults with disabilities. She is currently a board member for three organizations affiliated with serving the needs of people with disabilities and their families. She is Sunday School teacher and work with the youths at the church.
