Washington D.C. – WEBWIRE

After an extensive national search, NPR President and CEO John Lansing has named Leora Hanser to lead NPR’s Development team. Hanser is an accomplished fundraising leader who has brought transformational resources to major nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and overseas. She will be joining NPR as Chief Development Officer.

“Leora is a leader with a wealth of experience in fundraising, skill in leading and motivating teams, a personal commitment to NPR’s diversity priorities, and the dedication to navigate public radio through the competitive and constantly changing landscape of philanthropy today. Her twenty-year career has been driven by a passion for public service, in pursuit of equity and equality for all,” said Lansing.

“What excited me most about NPR was the opportunity to join public radio now, when independent fact-based journalism has never been more under threat,” added Hanser. “I am eager to bring my track record of growing revenue to drive and support philanthropy not just at NPR but with Member stations.”

In her most recent role as Chief Development Officer at the US Soccer Foundation, Hanser secured landmark multimillion dollar partnerships with major corporations and foundations. Prior to that, as SVP for Partnerships at the National Geographic Society, Hanser led and managed all revenue generation and fundraising activities for the Society, quickly growing contributed revenue and securing substantial corporate support. Previously, Hanser served as Chief of Staff to the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Partnerships, overseeing public-private partnerships for the City of New York. As Director of Campaigns and Advocacy at Save the Children UK, she led the creation and development of global integrated fundraising and marketing campaigns, and ensured strategic alignment as Save the Children UK transitioned to a newly established federated model.
