Author E. Dorinda Shelley’s “The Helium Series” is now available in audiobook form

“The Helium Series” by Dorinda Shelley is a trio of vibrantly drawn and wonderfully written children’s books with a common theme of floating, whimsical fun with thrilling twists and premises. “The Helium Table”, “The Helium Egg” and “ Helium Heels” make up the series, which is now available in separate audiobooks.
 
Heavy medical books are taken from a dining room table in “The Helium Table,” which then floats out the front door.  All the farm animals leap aboard to keep down the table, but it still flies into space like a balloon. The animals bring the table home again by working together and gathering space junk.
 
In “The Helium Egg,” a little black hen finds a soft blue egg, which rapidly expands and starts to float. All the barn animals eventually need to sit on the egg to weight it down. What hatches out is a surprise!
 
The “Helium Heels” entry of the series follows a little black hen who can’t keep her ghost babies out of trouble in the barn. They meet a skunk, bathe in tomato juice, and paint the donkeys’ hoofs red with helium paint. This starts a fad which makes all the farm animals happy as they dance around the pasture.

About the Author
 
“Born in 1940, I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, blessed with a superb John Burroughs School education. After graduating from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts with a BA in Zoology, I studied medicine at the University of Missouri (MD 1966) and also trained there in Dermatology. My career encompassed academic dermatology at Stanford, the University of Illinois (Chicago and Peoria) and the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo (now part of the University of Toledo).
 
“My dermatologist husband and I practiced together while we raised 3 children and published several dermatologic textbooks. We lived on a “farmette” with numerous animals. After he died in 2009, I wrote 3 children’s books (The Helium series) based on our animals, beautifully illustrated by Nora Hutton.
 
“In recent years I opened a second hand bookstore, Library House Books and Art, LLC in Grand Rapids, Ohio, where I live. This has led me into the fascinating worlds of books, art, and antiques – visual fields, just like dermatology. I particularly enjoy estate auctions and library sales.”
