Nestlé accelerates climate action with suppliers through the Exponential Roadmap Initiative

WEBWIRE

Nestlé has today joined the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, a coalition of organizations acting in line with the UN 1.5°C ambition on climate change. Members include technology innovators, scientists, companies and NGOs, all working to accelerate climate action. The Initiative is an official partner of the United Nations’ ’Race To Zero’ campaign.

In addition to joining the Initiative, Nestlé will also become one of a select group of multinational ’1.5°C Supply Chain Leaders’. These companies will work to drive change across global supply chains and support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the SME Climate Hub. The Leaders will encourage and assist suppliers to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050 at the latest.

The move comes shortly after the publication of Nestlé’s Net Zero Roadmap (pdf, 10Mb), detailing the actions and investments the company will prioritize on climate change.

“Nestlé is proud to join the Exponential Roadmap Initiative as a Supply Chain Leader. More than 90% of our carbon emissions come from our supply chain, so working with suppliers is critical for achieving net zero emissions by 2050. We look forward to collaborating with others on this journey” said Magdi Batato, Nestlé’s Global Head of Operations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Nestlé and continue to build our initiative, joining Ericsson, IKEA, Telia, BT Group and Unilever as 1.5°C Supply Chain Leaders with a common goal to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Working together with suppliers and other supply chain leaders - both to enable solutions and to remove blockers - is an absolute necessity for large corporations with net-zero ambitions” said Johan Falk, Head of the Exponential Roadmap Initiative.

Nestlé will work with its 150,000 suppliers to reach net zero emissions, with a particular focus on the 30,000 companies that supply it with raw and packaging materials around the world.
