Composer and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier takes listeners on a musical journey around the world with Jacob Collier’s Music Room, two programmes recorded exclusively for BBC Radio 3 from his music studio in his family home in North London - where he has spent most of 2020, as global lockdowns supplanted his busy touring schedule. In these episodes, the young British prodigy - with four acclaimed albums under his belt; a management deal with legendary producer and arranger Quincy Jones; four Grammy awards; and three nominations for the 2021 Grammys - presents the music that has accompanied him through this unprecedented year.

Jacob’s choices are an eclectic selection of pieces of all different genres from all over the world, including works by Benjamin Britten, Flying Lotus, Sam Amidon, Sir John Tavener, Erykah Badu, Hermeto Pascoal, and Jonathan Dove among others. A special end-of-year treat for the listeners, Jacob also shares three performances recorded exclusively for the Radio 3 programmes: his solo piano renditions of Norah Jones’ Nightingale and Burt Bacharach’s Alfie, alongside Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus featuring himself with his mother - violinist Suzie Collier - and two sisters Sophie and Ella.

The two music room episodes were recorded in Collier’s famous creative retreat, where a few years back - surrounded by a myriad of instruments - he started uploading to the web the viral videos of his versions of classic pieces in music history across genres and decades - all performed by himself playing multiple instruments and singing harmonies.
