Expanding to new platforms and engaging new users who would have never thought to be esports players has always been a core vision for us from the start of Esports One. We can’t wait to bring our creativity to new game titles in 2021.”

Esports One, the first all-in-one fantasy esports platform with real-time predictive data, today added $4 million in additional funding led by XSeed Capital, Eniac Ventures, and Chestnut Street Ventures. Now, with new funding and new partnerships in place, the company will expand its platform access to global event organizers and support new game titles with customized fantasy games.

Esports One launched as the first esports fantasy platform focused on the North American and European divisions of League of Legends in 2019. In the past year, the platform saw a staggering uptick in new fans, participants, and partners. Since the 2020 League of Legends Spring Split alone, Esports One saw a 300% increase in platform users along with a growth rate above 25% month-over-month. Its core features enable users to research the pros, develop their fantasy rosters, chat with their friends, and even watch the tournament matches all in one place.

With the funds, Esports One will develop new fantasy esports games for popular titles like Rainbow Six: Siege, Rocket League, Valorant, and Fortnite and develop the core product to best meet the needs of fantasy esports fans, with a focus on monetization and accessibility:

  • Virtual Currency. Esports One recently launched Bytes, a virtual currency that users earn as they’re playing fantasy esports. Users can spend Bytes to enter fantasy contests with prizes and buy customizations in the store. Esports One will continue to expand their Bytes offering, creating a gamified virtual ecosystem around fantasy esports.
  • Mobile Apps. Currently, the fantasy platform is available on desktop and mobile sites. In response to user feedback, Esports One will be building iOS and Android mobile apps to bring fantasy esports lineups to your smartphone for fantasy on the go.

“As a fairly new player in the esports world, we’ve seen immense determination and grit from Matt, Sharon, and the whole Esports One team to grow into a household name, ” said Damon Cronkey, from XSeed Capital. “I’m excited to be partnering with a company that will deliver new perspectives and features to an evolving industry. We’re eager to see how Esports One grows in 2021.”

Esports One Goes Global
With the uncertainty surrounding the future of in-person events as a result of COVID-19, sports fans have flocked to esports this year. Esports One is supporting global esports event organizers as they meet increased demand for fantasy leagues through its partnership with ESL Gaming, the world’s largest esports and gaming lifestyle company. Together, Esports One and ESL Gaming will bring fantasy esports to global events and millions of users across the most popular esports and video game titles.

“My team and I are incredibly thankful to our investment partners and ESL Gaming for allowing us to bring Esports One to a new audience,” said Esports One CEO and co-founder, Matt Gunnin. “Expanding to new platforms and engaging new users who would have never thought to be esports players has always been a core vision for us from the start of Esports One. We can’t wait to bring our creativity to new game titles in 2021.”

With $7.3 million in total funding to-date, the new funds will be used to develop its core product and expand its user base and game partners. Esports One will also continue to scale internally, using the funds received for team growth and globalization.
