InCountry Expands Data Localization Offerings in Russia, Debuts New Regional Headquarters

A year and a half since launch, InCountry demonstrates 152-FZ conformance, enabling SaaS and multi-national companies to comply with the most stringent Russian data residency requirements

ROSTOV ON DON, Russia (Dec. 1, 2020) -- InCountry, the provider of solutions helping companies adopt SaaS products with global data residency and compliance, today announced its new regional headquarters in Rostov-On-Don, Russia, led by Director of Engineering, Aleksandr Romanov. The company has also achieved the Russian Federal Law on Personal Data (no.152-FZ).

Implemented on July 27, 2006, under federal law, no. 152-FZ, the Russian Federal Law on Personal Data applies to personal data that is processed within the Russian territory and/or the storage, collection and transfer of its citizen’s personal data in any region outside of Russia. For cross-border transfers, the law applies if a Russian citizen accepts terms of service or user agreement with a foreign data operator and/or consents to a foreign data operator’s collection and use of the citizen’s personal data, such as through online shopping.

Furthering its mission, InCountry now satisfies the requirements under the Federal Law No. 152, in addition to debuting a new headquarter in the region, to properly service the data residency needs of enterprises operating in Russia or servicing Russian citizens. For global highly-regulated non-Russian companies looking to enter the Russian market, this ensures that their data is compliant with the most stringent local Russian data regulations. With a nominal gross domestic product (GDP) of $1.63 trillion, these new services allow companies to expand their operation and business into Russia’s steadily increasing market.

“We’ve seen an increase in demand from companies trying to enter the Russian market and businesses in Russia that have trouble staying up to date with local data residency requirements,” noted Peter Yared, CEO, and Founder of InCountry. “As a region with incredible local talent, we’re looking forward to doubling down on our presence in the region and growing alongside the market.”

For companies looking to adopt global SaaS applications that don’t provide data centers in Russia, complying with these regulations become challenging, potentially preventing the company from doing business in Russia altogether. As such, InCountry has partnered with DLA Piper, an international law firm that acts as an extended research team, and Yandex.Cloud, the largest data center provider in Russia, ensuring data is properly hosted, processed, secured, and regulated.

“We’ve seen a strong increase in data regulations globally in the last five years. Often, it’s led to costly court hearings that leave companies unable to operate in regions entirely,” said Pavel Arievich, legal director at DLA Piper. “InCountry’s solutions are a great way for businesses to stay ahead of these regulations and ensure business continuity. We’ve enjoyed working with InCountry throughout the last year and are excited to continue to support them and their customers as they expand their product offerings across the globe as they’re doing now in Russia.”

“It’s vital for enterprises to ensure the data they process is stored safely and securely, especially as they enter new markets,” remarks Andrey Ivanov, Head of the security solutions strategy of Yandex.Cloud. “As the leading cloud provider in Russia, we’re thrilled to partner with InCountry to ensure their customers have access to the most robust and scalable data storage solution available in the region.”
