Some of UNIST’s outstanding design achievements are being showcased at the Design Korea Festival (DK Festival) 2020, the largest design exhibition in Korea.

The DK Festival 2020 is an annual exhibition, being hosted and organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP). Each year, more than 560 companies at home and abroad participate in the exhibition, featuring over 2,000 design works. The exhibition, which started on November 19, will proceed until December 18, 2020.

Held under the theme of ‘Design Beyond Data,’ the event features multiple exhibitions, displaying design trends around the world, especially on the convergence of data and design, as well as lectures by renowned designers from diverse fields.

A total of 5 design works by the Department of Design at UNIST are currently on display at the exhibition. Those works include Urban and 911$ Rescue Drone by Professor Yunwoo Jeong’s design team, PRIVY and SuLi by Professor Hwang Kim’s design team, and the Korean Chop-stick Project by Professor James A. Self’s design team. Their works can be also accessible via VR exhibition, dubbed the Achievement Exhibition of DK Festival 2020.

Throughout the festival, Professor Hwang Kim will also be participating in the ‘K Designer’ session. He will be showcasing some of his design works at its special exhibition, dubbed Design Archive: Modern Korea, Design, part of the Theme Exhibition of DK Festival 2020. The displayed works include CCTV Chandelier, Cocoon, and Pizza for All.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the DK Festival has decided to put a hold on all offline events this year. Instead, the DK Festival 2020 will be held in a digitact (digital + contact) manner, using digitact platform.
