Leveraging Juniper’s Open IP Service Creation Program, Partners to Develop Dynamic Networking Automation (DNA) Solution for Real-time Service Control

SUNNYVALE, CA, and MENLO PARK, CA, U.S. - January 24, 2007 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) and Intelliden, Inc. today announced that they will deliver a Dynamic Networking Automation solution for high bandwidth IP services. By integrating Juniper’s Networks Service Deployment System (SDX) platform and Intelliden’s Dynamic Resource Provisioning solution, the joint DNA solution will link end-to-end policy and real-time network resource management by extending intelligence to the network core to help communications service providers deliver broadband services with enhanced quality of experience (QoE), greater service reliability and higher scalability while containing operational costs.

Canadian telecommunications service provider TELUS is a long-standing customer of both companies, and anticipates deploying the joint solution in its network.

“Carriers must optimize their high speed networks to remain competitive in the marketplace. The TELUS convergence strategy is intended to provide our customers with the best quality of service and user experience for all their communications and entertainment needs in a cost effective framework,” said Ibrahim Gedeon, TELUS’ chief technology officer. “Juniper and Intelliden are key suppliers of TELUS and their joint solution has the potential to further enhance our ability to control, manage, and scale in a cost effective manner; specifically for converged multimedia applications.”

While QoS and policy management requirements have long been key requirements in the broadband edge, advanced multimedia applications are driving the need for enhanced real-time policy control within the network core. The joint solution will combine best-in-class products to provide initial resource provisioning, on-going modifications and exception management to ensure reliable and scalable service delivery. This innovative DNA solution will enhance network intelligence and application awareness in the IP network core, providing advanced policy management capabilities across the entire network.

The solution will also bridge the critical link between network policy and OSS systems to enable dynamic allocation of network resources on demand. Additionally the solution is consistent with the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture giving service providers the flexibility to rapidly deploy new services in an economical manner.

Under development within Juniper’s new Open IP Service Creation Program (OSCP), the joint solution will utilize open application programming interfaces (APIs) to the SDX to enable dynamic resource awareness and provisioning of network elements and paths based on real-time application requirements. The joint solution builds upon and complements Juniper’s Liquid LSP (label switched path) solution which can dynamically select the best possible path through the network for advanced video services, improving efficiency and reducing costs. By providing a tighter coupling of the network and application layers, this new policy-based solution will further enhance resource utilization for operational and capital cost savings.

“The joint solution with Intelliden will enable service providers to more efficiently and cost-effectively support video and other multi-play services by enabling the network to dynamically meet service-specific requirements,” said Shailesh Shukla, vice president of Service Provider Marketing and Partnerships, Juniper Networks. “Having the ability to rapidly adjust to changing consumer requirements will enable service differentiation and be a competitive advantage for service providers. This partnership with Intelliden is an excellent example of the unique capabilities enabled by Juniper’s open approach to IPTV and multi-play service delivery and we welcome Intelliden to the Open IP Service Creation Program.”

“Next generation architectures and IMS are changing the dynamics of broadband service delivery. High bandwidth services such as IPTV are causing an increase in the number and type of policies that must be managed. Service providers are challenged to manage these policies for real-time network resource optimization and quality of service,” said Alan Black, president and CEO, Intelliden. “Our patented technology for dynamic allocation of IP network resources and bandwidth management enables real time policy control of next generation services”.
