easyJet has announced it will open two new seasonal bases in Faro, Portugal and Malaga, Spain in time for next summer. The move will create around 200 pilot and crew jobs and will see easyJet base three aircraft in each airport.

The new bases will allow the airline to better respond to higher customer demand over the summer with plans to become operational next spring operating over the summer season to the end of October.
Faro and Malaga will be the third base in each country with Malaga joining Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca in Spain and Faro alongside Lisbon and Porto in Portugal.

easyJet has long served both destinations where we have collectively flown 55 million passengers since 1999, the vast majority of whom were holidaymakers exploring the popular summer sun resorts of the Algarve and the Costa del Sol.

Thomas Haagensen, Group Markets Director at easyJet, commented:

“We are very pleased to announce the opening of a third base in both Portugal and Spain next summer. Despite the difficult environment that the whole industry is navigating through, this move confirms our commitment to these two popular destinations and will enable us to better serve our customers by optimising our schedule over the summer season as well as making a positive economic contribution to each region.”

The addition of Malaga and Faro means easyJet operates from 28 bases across its network. Spain and Portugal are important markets for easyJet with around 26% of all easyJet passengers touching Spain or Portugal in the last financial year and the move will further strengthen its leadership position in both countries. easyJet flew over eight million passengers to and from Portugal and 18.5 million for Spain last year.
