Forbes released the 2020 Cloud 100, the definitive ranking of the top 100 private cloud companies in the world, produced in collaboration with Bessemer Venture Partners and Salesforce Ventures. Cloud data warehouse Snowflake lands at No. 1 on this year’s list, up from the number two spot in 2019, followed by online payments processing company Stripe, who lands at No. 2, down from the No. 1 spot on last year’s ranking. The total combined value of the Cloud 100 companies reaches $267 billion, and 87 of the top 100 are valued at $1 billion or more.

“Our Cloud 100 recognizes the computing companies that are leading the way in cloud technology innovation with our Cloud 100 list,” said Alex Konrad, list editor at Forbes. “This list is our strongest to date, as it ranks the best and brightest emerging companies transforming the future of work especially in light of the pandemic.”

The fifth-annual list profiles top-tier private companies redefining the future of cloud by leading innovation in infrastructure, security, and data and analytics. The list ranks companies for their industry-leading sales, growth, high valuations and strong culture, while factoring in the input of 43 public cloud-company CEOs and executives.

Methodology

Forbes data partner Bessemer Venture Partners received hundreds of submissions to identify the standouts in cloud categories that demonstrated strong financials and other exceptional qualitative factors, such as unprecedented customer adoption and satisfaction. A panel of 25 judges, made up of a majority of public cloud CEOs, selected and ranked the top 100 companies using a combination of quantitative and qualitative factors. The evaluation process involved four factors: estimated valuation (30%), operating metrics (20%), people and culture (15%), and market leadership (35%), which the judge panel then weighed to select, score and rank the winners.
