Helium Announces Partnership with Smart Mimic to Offer Security Solutions and COVID-19 Contact Tracing via Nationwide IoT Network

San Francisco, CA, USA – WEBWIRE

San Francisco, September 2, 2020  — Helium, the company behind one of the world’s first peer-to-peer wireless networks, today announced a partnership with leading Internet of Things (IoT) device manufacturer Smart Mimic. Through this partnership, the two companies will enable a new generation of wireless security and contact tracing, tracking and monitoring devices to help protect precious things, people and mitigate COVID-19 risk.
Smart Mimic’s MimicGO line of consumer products, alarm and portable in-room and security-on-the-go devices, as well as MimicS, an enterprise solution dedicated for COVID contact tracking and tracing, are LoRa-based, low power, wireless and compact, and can be used anywhere— ideal for any smart monitoring situation. Upon detecting a change in status, the device activates an alarm, as well as a real-time notification to a smartphone, to discourage theft or tampering with monitored locations.
“We were searching for an IoT network that had the best reach, scale, and security. We found that in Helium,” said Noyan Berker, president and CEO, Smart Mimic. “Helium is the ideal and preferred technology partner and network to connect to the Internet, safely, securely and cost effectively. Thanks to Helium and The People’s Network, we are delivering and transmitting critical security information to our customers over great distances that could save lives. This wasn’t possible before.”
Smart Mimic is currently utilizing The People’s Network, which is powered by the Helium Hotspot. The Hotspot is a hardware device that enables anyone to own and operate a wireless network for IoT devices. With Helium’s open-source blockchain technology, individuals are incentivized to deploy Hotspots, which simultaneously mine cryptocurrency and provide network coverage for hundreds of square miles. Helium’s supporters (individual consumers) have created networks across 1,000+ cities, in all fifty states throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico in the past year. When connected with other nearby Hotspots, this acts as the backbone of the network, which is often referred to as The People’s Network.
“Collaborating with Smart Mimic has been a privilege. Helping them address and tackle key issues, such as security and physical distancing, which are prevalent in the world today, is an ongoing endeavor, and we are looking forward to continuing to do great things together,” said Amir Haleem, Helium’s CEO and co-founder.
