San Marcos, TX Counselor Expresses Herself through Poetry
Hispanic poet compiles 40 years of poetry and prose to leave a mark of a life well-lived.
A life well lived is worth celebrating through poetry.
Poetry is not only about verbal consonance, but also of emotions and thoughts, especially when they pertain to one’s experiences in life. Only a poet like Trinidad Rodriguez can translate them into a universal language that everyone could understand and relate to because poets can describe emotions and thoughts better than most. They are the dough that allows the Texan counselor’s poems in “Trini: My Life of Poems” (iUniverse, 2015).
“Trini: My Life of Poems” is more than just a collection of poems; it is an anthology of experiences, all wrapped in form. It is as if each poem represents an episode in Rodriguez’s life or a certain feeling or thought. It is not that hard to guess what she went through all these years.
As a single mother, Rodriguez pours her heart out in “Each Time I Cried;” in “My Grief” and “Upon Your Head I Placed a Crown,” she grieves a failed pursuit of love (or a break-up or a failed relationship, depending on how one interprets the two poems). She compares life to a dark sea and a puppeteer in “Life is Like the Dark, Dark Sea” and “Puppets,” respectively; both poems sum up the struggles she went through in life. Life also offers Rodriguez something to reflect upon, like the subject of freedom in “My Beautiful Butterfly.” In “Woman Know Thy Limit,” she examines how far she has succeeded in life.
As a single mother and a Latina, Rodriguez endured much in life but she persevered. Readers will find “Trini: My Life of Poems” as a fruit of Rodriguez’s labor more than just her masterpiece – a memoir, perhaps, but with form and elegance that only a poet could deliver. The collection, after all, is a celebration of her life and works and a monument to her life of significance.
Every poetry lover should have Rodriguez’s “Trini: My Life of Poems” on their bookshelf. They can purchase the book on Amazon or on the author’s website at http://www.trinir.com/
