“Well,” says Catherine Wolff the design and marketing half of the duo behind SeekCraft, “it could be argued that it’s the perfect time to start an eCommerce business since so many physical businesses were forced to close. Besides, we’d been planning our online opening for months, so when April came around we decided to launch anyway. Lockdown or no lockdown.”

Why would someone start an online business during the coronavirus lockdown?

“Well,” says Catherine Wolff the design and marketing half of the duo behind SeekCraft, “it could be argued that it’s the perfect time to start an eCommerce business, since so many physical businesses were forced to close. Besides, we’d been planning our online opening for months, so when April came around we decided to launch anyway. Lockdown or no lockdown.”

Not only did these sister-in-laws launch their own eCommerce store, they created products that capitalized on the current pandemic.

For example, a fridge magnet featuring a voluptuous and corseted actress from the 1800s is captioned, “My dear, flattening these curves would be a crime!”

The other half of this duo is Catherine’s sister-in-law who wants to be known only as ’Red Robbin.’

Catherine explains: “I know it’s kind of odd, but ’Red’ loves her privacy. I tease her that she’s paranoid, but I respect and understand her position. So I take the lead on the marketing stuff.”

What kind of mixed media art does Red Robbin create? When asked by phone Red said: “I don’t know why, but I’m fascinated with what I can do with paint, glue and recycled paper and cardboard. I think interesting, beautiful art can be made from ordinary things.”

For Catherine and Red, launching their new ecom site made sense because it pooled their resources and abilities. They completely agree that protecting our environment is vital and understand the necessity of reducing and reusing things.

Their eStore design with free shipping were important features too. They wanted their store to look good, yet function even better. “It’s all about trust when you’re shopping online so, design and navigation go hand in hand,” they say. It’s what brought them to the BigCartel.com platform.

Besides Red Robbins’ 95% recycled mixed media wall art, SeekCraft offers designer greeting cards and gifts. Many of the designs are comprised of original, copyright free, vintage movie star images and sayings Wolff thinks up herself.

Their retail shop can be found at www.seekcraft.bigcartel.com. However, they are particularly interested in building long term relationships with stockists and distributors looking for greeting cards and gifts which are unique, timely and elegant. Their wholesale site is being built now.
