11 January 2007 - BT today announced it has signed a three-year managed services agreement with Methanex, the world’s largest producer and marketer of methanol. As part of the agreement, valued at approximately $2.3 Million USD, BT will provide and manage an integrated portfolio of the following services: BT Infonet IP VPN Secure (IVS); IP VPN Internet (IVI); and BT Infonet Global Connect Service.

As a global enterprise, Methanex has manufacturing, marketing and supply chain capabilities in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Caribbean and throughout the Asia Pacific region. Today’s agreement includes BT providing services for all Methanex’s locations.

“Our business requires the support of vendors who truly understand the needs of global businesses. We gave BT high marks for their ability to design a solution, execute operationally, and help us manage the transition to the new services,” said Gary Rowan, Director of Global IT, Methanex. “Ultimately, we selected BT not only for their superior technology but for their proven ability to implement and manage change while working with us.”

Chuck Pol, President, BT Americas, commented, “We’re pleased to be able to provide Methanex with the right solutions for their business. Today’s announcement further supports BT’s commitment to being an innovator focused on meeting the needs of global businesses around the world.”

BT is committed to providing multinational businesses operating in and out of Canada the managed networked solutions they require to be competitive in the Digital Networked Economy,” added Pol. “We are delighted to have been selected by Methanex to provide managed network services to their sites in North America and beyond.”

BT’s solution delivers a dedicated MPLS-based VPN as the primary network, capable of prioritizing Methanex’s critical application traffic between key production, sales and marketing offices around the world. This core network is backed-up with a fully managed, public Internet-based MPLS IP VPN which is more cost effective for the company’s smaller sites. Both networks are seamlessly tied together operating as a single global IP VPN.

Methanex is a truly global enterprise with an international management team that has guided its growth since Methanex was incorporated in 1992. Through acquisitions, mergers and construction of low cost production facilities, the company has built a global methanol manufacturing and marketing organization. Everyday, approximately 800 employees around the world work together in a global team environment where employees are dependent on one another to achieve the company’s business objectives. Methanex’s core values of integrity, trust, respect and professionalism have made them the preferred methanol supplier for our customers. Their product - methanol - can be found in everything from windshield washer fluid to recyclable plastic bottles, plywood floors to the paint on your walls, silicone sealants to synthetic fibres. It is used to manufacture a fuel component that, when added to gasoline, makes the gas burn more cleanly. Methanol is being used to remove nitrates from municipal wastewater and in the production of bio-diesel. New applications and uses for methanol are being found all the time. In the future, methanol could be used as a rich source of hydrogen for fuel cells.
