Christie’s Announces New 20th & 21st Centuries Department

LONDON  – WEBWIRE

As public viewing opens across digital and select physical locations today for Christie’s innovative new auction format: ONE: a Global Sale of the 20th Century, the company announces the Impressionist & Modern and Post-War & Contemporary Art departments will unite to form one global 20th and 21st Centuries team led by Alex Rotter and Giovanna Bertazzoni.

Reflecting evolving market demand and the collecting habits of our clients, I am pleased to also announce that our largest fine art specialist teams, Impressionist & Modern and Post-War & Contemporary Art group, have been reimagined and combined to create a newly formed 20th and 21st Century group that will present the best of 20th and 21st century art across live, digital and private sale platforms,” said Guillaume Cerutti, CEO, Christie’s International.

The new group will be led by Chairman, Alex Rotter, based in Americas and Giovanna Bertazzoni, as Vice-Chairman, based in Europe.

The teamwork as we created our forthcoming July 10th ONE sale: a Global Sale of the 20th Century has been fantastic and in light of successful recent years where Christie’s has offered 20th Century art across marquee weeks globally, we know the time is right to merge our teams,” commented Alex Rotter, Chairman, 20th & 21st Century Art. “In addition, we will be developing a new approach to 21st century art to offer Contemporary art from this century in a new way. This merger will encourage fresh artistic dialogues, engagingly edited sales as well as maintaining our world-class expertise in all periods of Modern and Contemporary art.”

By joining together, we will achieve even greater collaboration and creativity, while also maintaining our disciplines and focus on across the artistic periods,” said Giovanna Bertazzoni, Vice Chairman, 20th & 21st Century Art. “We want to build more exciting sales in the spirit of the ONE sale in the future, and to serve clients across both live and digital auction platforms appealing to an increasingly diverse, and global, collecting audience.”
