Leveraging the power of food to end hunger and build healthier communities, as FoodLink does, is a mission that naturally aligns with our values as a company.

The Karma Sauce Company announced their plans to raise money for FoodLink early in April . “It’s simple” the email blast read, “you stock up on sauce, FoodLink gets some funds. It’s good Karma all around, which is just the way we like it!” The company pledged to donate all digital sales raised from April 15th to May 1st to the charity. By the time May rolled around, the company had raised $5,500 for FoodLink’s COVID-19 relief fund.

“This is wonderful news” said FoodLink’s director of development Julie Burke upon hearing of the pledge, “we are so grateful for [Karma Sauce’s] ongoing partnership and support”. The ties between the two companies are long and deep. Before Karma Sauce was conceived, company founder Gene Olczak served as a volunteer at Foodlink’s farm in Penfield NY, where he assisted in growing hydroponic greens. When Karma Sauce launched in 2010, Gene maintained ties with FoodLink in a number of ways, including frequent sauce donations and participation in FoodLink’s annual fundraiser event “The Festival Food”. Additionally, Karma Sauce has made regular donations with a portion of the company’s profits.  These donations are part of Karma Sauce’s commitment, visible on every bottle of sauce, to donating 5% of all company profits to charity. FoodLink remains the company’s most frequent beneficiary.

“Karma Sauce has always been interested in rethinking the food supply chain, which is why we’re so committed to local agriculture. Leveraging the power of food to end hunger and build healthier communities, as FoodLink does, is a mission that naturally aligns with our values as a company” Gene Olczak said in a statement. The disruption caused by Coronavirus has heightened FoodLink’s pivotal role as a resource for Upstate New Yorkers in need.

The Karma Sauce Company micro-factory is located in downtown Rochester. The company also owns a pepper farm in Bristol, New York. FoodLink operates out of Rochester and serves Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties.
