Thai Union Donates THB 1 Million in SEALECT Products to Communities Affected by COVID-19

BANGKOK – WEBWIRE

Thai Union Group PCL. donated THB 1 million worth of SEALECT and FISHO products to the SATI Foundation to support 20,000 households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangkok, Thailand.

Thai Union CEO Thiraphong Chansiri and Saran Rattanarungruengchai, General Manager – Emerging Markets at Thai Union, donated the products to support the Thai government’s medical teams who are handling the coronavirus situation.

The donation, which included more than 25,000 cans of tuna, sardines and mackerel and 8,000 packs of FISHO snacks, were handed over to the Ministry of Public Health and will be distributed to hospitals and related support units.

Thai Union has also joined a humanitarian assistance program by the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand, delivering 42,000 cups of ready-to-eat Tuna Infusions to the Thai Red Cross. The food supplies will be distributed to medical and related teams at Chulalongkorn Hospital, one of the main hospitals receiving patients infected by COVID-19 in Thailand.

The donation comes after Thai Union China, a subsidiary of Thai Union Group, donated more than 52,000 cans of King Oscar tuna to the city of Wuhan, which has been heavily impacted by COVID-19. The first shipment of tuna was distributed to people working on the Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital Project, one of two new hospitals being built for COVID-19 patients. The second shipment was delivered to more than 15 hospitals in Wuhan including Wuhan Union Hospital, which is the main hospital treating people affected by the COVID-19 virus.

In France, Thai Union’s MerAlliance donated surplus food supplies to health professionals. MerAlliance also gave 5,000 hygiene caps, 1,000 disposable lab coats and 38,000 protection aprons to private sector health professionals supporting the hospital of Quimper. Meanwhile, the factory operated by Petit Navire, a subsidiary of Thai Union Europe, donated 24,000 FFP2 masks to hospitals in the region.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S., Chicken of the Sea has donated more than 500,000 servings of canned tuna, salmon and other protein-packed products to hunger relief organizations helping vulnerable populations within the local communities where the company operates.
