“You cannot explain the path to sobriety without writing about the everyday issues and how it affected myself and my siblings.”
 
The second half of “Worth Saving, a Memoir” deals with the author taking care of her mother who had dementia at the age of 94. “I kept 7 journals of the 7 years I cared for her,” says the author. “I learned a lot, knowing nothing about caring for someone like this.
 
“I wrote all my experiences, along with what help you can receive from Medicare and what you do not, how to stimulate someone with dementia, and how you can have help from hospice even if the patient is not bedridden.”
 
The author had learned so much from her experiences dealing with an alcoholic father and caring for an elderly person with severe dementia. She deems it her mission to write this book so she could share her experience and insight with readers dealing with alcoholism and dementia in the family.
