“Grant’s Wish” is a lighthearted tale revolving around a very old and legendary hotel in the fictional city of Plainview, Ind. It’s past its prime, in a state of disrepair and neglected by its corporate owner. The 150- year-old Silver Swan Inn once boasted famous names as guests such as authors, politicians. It noted military leaders, including U.S. Grant, who stayed there occasionally during the Civil War years. Lee Nieman is assigned to the Swan as manager and, grudgingly, takes the job in his chain’s least profitable property. But soon, charmed by its legends, antique ambiance, and the hidden secrets of the Swan, he contemplates buying the place.
 
But he faces a down payment he can’t afford, the haughty rich great-granddaughter of the Swan’s founder and a 95-year-old Indian whose tribe has a legendary grudge against the hotel.
 
The story, sprinkled with history, old wines, antiques, and even a ghost, reads almost like a mystery with surprising turns of events, all keeping the reader turning pages and gaining a fresh understanding of U.S. Grant as President.
