Book Reviewers: Janice Romney’s “Beyond the Power of Love” is genuine, engrossing

In “Beyond the Power of Love: A Woman’s Journey Through Betrayal of Religion and Spousal Abuse” (iUniverse; 2012), author Janice Romney reveals the impact of domestic violence on her life and her journey to healing through the power of love.
 
The book, which is the revised edition of a memoir first published in 2004, details the author’s long journey of abuse, from when she was just five-years-old to when she married Bobby, a fellow devout Latter-day Saint. Romney also talks about the tumultuous lives of her sons, her prescription pill abuse, and a medical scare involving a brain tumor and nearly died in November 2019. These subjects allow Romney ample space to reflect on the psychological scars of abuse found in herself and her sons. Romney says:

She is a speaker at many fund raising events for domestic violence organizations and high schools for teen awareness of teen dating violence. Since 2004, she has mentored women in crisis from spousal/partner abuse and taught high school students the risks of teen dating violence. She currently lives in New Mexico.
