Friday Night Dinner - biggest C4 comedy series in over a decade

Saturday saw All 4’s biggest ever day of viewing


Friday Night Dinner returned to Channel 4 for its sixth series on Friday Night at 10pm and attracted a massive average audience of 2.4 million viewers and a 13.7% share, making it the channel’s biggest overnight audience to a comedy series since the IT Crowd in 2007 – for both all individuals and young viewers.

Friday’s episode pulled in almost a million viewers aged 16-34 (916k) and a 40.6% share of those watching TV from 10-10.30pm – Channel 4’s biggest overnight audience of young viewers for any programme so far this year.

Channel 4 drew the biggest share of young viewers from 9pm to 11pm thanks to Gogglebox (30.1% 16-34 share), Friday Night Dinner (40.6%) and Duncanville (15.3%).

Friday night saw Channel 4 achieve its biggest share of the viewing audience in prime time (8-11pm) so far this year (13.3%) and second biggest of the year for its key demographic of 16-34s (23.7%).

Saturday became All 4’s biggest day of viewing on record.

With over 12000 hours of content available to stream for free on All 4, audiences can binge all day on Channel 4 favourites Queer as Folk, Shameless and Skins; US classics Seinfeld, ER and Dawson’s Creek, and when a cheer up is needed -  the very best of British comedy from The Inbetweeners and Friday Night Dinner to Green Wing, Peep Show and The IT Crowd. C4 News and The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C

Channel 4 News at 7pm also saw huge growth last week, with the overnight average of 1.2m up +58% on the same week last year, while the 16-34 share of 6.4% was up +51%

Meanwhile, last week’s instalment [ep 3] of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C attained an audience of 4.1m; the biggest overnight rating for a celebrity version of the show on Channel 4, while the 16-34 share of 39.0% is the biggest ever.
