Earlier this month, a state of emergency was declared by Puerto Rico’s governor and a few days later, people were ordered to stay in their homes in an effort to battle the coronavirus pandemic. These actions, designed to slow the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, are especially important for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions that are most vulnerable to having a severe response if they develop COVID-19.
 
As reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the virus can be spread from person-to-person through close contact with one another through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The agency also states that it may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes.
