Global innovators join the world’s leading circular economy network

These innovators are already designing, developing, and scaling circular business models, products, and materials. As new members of the CE100, they will inspire and enable other members to develop new circular partnerships and practices.

US company Apeel Sciences has pioneered a plant-derived protective layer that can be applied to the surface of fruits and vegetables, keeping them fresher for longer and reducing food waste. It also reduces the need for plastic packaging.

Cadel Deinking, based in Spain, has developed a ‘deinking’ process — removing printed ink from plastic surfaces prior to recycling, to create a higher-value product similar in quality to new plastic.

Garcon Wines, based in the UK, has created flat wine bottles made from recycled plastics. The recyclable bottles are lighter than traditional bottles and save space, making them more cost-effective and efficient to transport.

French company Lizee provides e-commerce and logistics solutions to help retail brands enter the sharing economy by renting their products, ensuring goods can be reused multiple times.

Loop is a shopping platform available in France and the US. Products are delivered in reusable packaging which is collected by Loop, cleaned, sent back to the brand for refilling, and placed back into circulation.

Based in the UK, Mimica Lab aims to reduce food waste with Mimica Touch — a temperature-responsive food expiry cap or label that tells consumers how fresh a product is, which means food is not thrown away unnecessarily.

MIWA Technologies, based in the Czech Republic, has developed reusable packaging with RFID/NFC technology for the distribution of dry and liquid products in bulk. The packaging works in tandem with unique electronic dispensers in shops.

Swedish company Omocom specialises in insurance solutions to meet the needs of the sharing economy, enabling the growth of key circular business practices — products as service models and peer-to-peer rental platforms.

US company Optoro specialises in reverse logistics, helping retailers build circular business models and eliminate waste, with returned and excess goods going to a secondary use.

Pandobac is a French packaging company providing food businesses with reusable crates as an alternative to disposable packaging such as cardboard boxes, wood crates, and polystyrene. Its service includes the rental, washing, and tracking of the crates, which can be reused hundreds of times before they are recycled.

Based in Belgium, Resortecs manufactures a dissolvable stitching thread used in zips, buttons, and fastenings for the easy disassembly of garments, so they can be reused, repaired or recycled.

Sourcemap, based in the US, helps companies build sustainable supply chains and identify and implement circular practices. It provides software to help companies and consumers trace products to their raw materials — ensuring those products meet social and environmental standards.
