Called to Pay Tribute

Designing and constructing a war memorial is a true form of art. When done well, memorials bring people together, inspire reverence and awe and—when crafted most successfully—stir their observers to act. This was the case for Bruce Robertson, as he stood in the shadow of Washington D.C.’s expansive tribute to the Vietnam War.
 
“My God,” thought Robertson, stunned when he and his wife, Karen, visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. “How many names are on this wall?” He would later learn the answer: the names of nearly 60,000 men and women are etched on the monument’s surface, paying tribute to the service members who fought and died during the Vietnam War, along with those who were unaccounted for. 
 
Robertson felt a strong calling from God to honor these men and women. “Freedom’s Wall” is the result of that calling—a compilation of poems born out of Roberton’s love for all veterans. He dedicates the work to everyone who has served in the U.S. Military.

About the Author
 
Bruce Robertson was born in 1941, the oldest of four boys born to Mary Robertson, a poet. Robertson took after his mother with an early interest in writing and started writing songs at age 11.
 
Today Robertson is a father to two sons of his own, one of them retired from 23 years in the Navy. One of his granddaughters is serving in the Army as a doctor, and another one is a surgical tech. He also has a grandson serving in the Marines as an instructor. He eagerly anticipates becoming a great-grandfather later this year. Robertson was married to his second wife, Karen, before losing her in 2019. He grieves his wife dearly and looks forward to being reunited with her in heaven. Aside from “Freedom’s Wall,” Robertson has also authored “Christmas Poems for All,” currently available on Amazon.com.
