Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego Once Again Make the List for Top Cities With Bed Bug Infestations

This past January,  Orkin  published its annual  Top 50 Bed Bug Cities List  and it included several major population centers in California. The highest ranking city in the state was Los Angeles (ranked 4 ^th  for a second year in a row) followed by the San Francisco (13 ^th ) and San Diego (44 ^th ). The list was compiled from bed bug data from residential and commercial treatments from the pest control company’s operations spanning from December 1 ^st  of 2018 through November 30 ^th  of 2019.

“In the release of the Top 50 Bed Bug Cities it was reported that hotels spend an average of more than $6,383 per bed bug incident,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “It also stated that these tiny insects can live more than 300 days and a female can lay an amazing 200 to 500 eggs over its lifetime. Some of the most common places where bed bugs are discovered include homes, apartments, condominiums, hotels and motels. Bed bugs are tiny and experts at hiding, this makes them quite difficult to find with just a visual search.”
