Marfrig Expands Sales of Its Plant-Based Burger

The vegetarian burger made by Marfrig and ADM will be sold by the Burger King chain in Uruguay

 Marfrig Global Foods, one of the world’s leading beef producers and the world’s largest beef patty producers, is launching today its plant-based burger in the Burger King chain in Uruguay.

The product, also known as the Rebel Whopper, is being marketed by one of the world’s largest fast food chains. “The expansion of our partnership with the chain attests to the high quality of our burger,” said Miguel Gularte, CEO for Marfrig’s South America Operation.

Attentive to the latest trends, Burger King is expanding its offering of the plant-based burger, whose sales first started in Brazil, in September 2019. With an exclusive recipe developed by ADM, a leading global nutrition company with the most complete portfolio of ingredients and solutions, the scale of the Rebel Whopper is expanding to now serve the Uruguayan market, where consumers will find a 100% plant-based burger with taste and texture similar to that of beef in the chain’s 20 stores in the country.

In August 2019, Marfrig and ADM signed an agreement to produce and market plant-based products, with ADM Nutrition SolutionsTM the supplier of the complete system for texture, color and flavor. “We offer solutions through a sustainable supply chain and will continue to move forward rapidly to reinforce our pioneering efforts to meet with excellence the new and growing demands of our clients and consumers,” said Roberto Ciciliano, CEO of ADM Nutrition for Latin America.
