“Together they discover the joy of forgiveness, and through the power of music, their hearts are healed.”

Doreen L. Hatton, a Canadian-born widowed mother, grandma, and great-grandmother who grew up in a large family, proudly presents her heartfelt novel “Then Sings My Soul.” Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Doreen’s new book is a gripping, realistic portrait of heartache and the process of healing, which in cases of tragedy often only truly begins at the moment of forgiveness. As the family in the story works their healing through their music, readers will discover God working through the power of music to heal their fractured lives.

Samuel, the husband of Lily Langston, is struck by a car and killed late one night as he traverses the path to his house. The driver, fifteen-year-old Aaron Turner, has only a learner’s permit and shouldn’t have been driving alone, even more so at night. Lily and her father are believers in redemption. The family persuades the court to grant Aaron probation and community service. But Rose, 15, can’t forgive and is angry because Aaron doesn’t go to jail or pay for killing her dad. Lily and her girls are musicians of great talent. They frequently perform church and community functions. While dealing with the tragedy of Samuel’s death, it is discovered that Aaron also sings and plays guitar. Together they discover the blessing of forgiveness, and through the power of music, their hearts are healed. This is the story of their journey.

About the Author

Doreen L. Hatton was born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She was one of thirteen children and the sixth and young girl in the family. Her brothers came after her. She was naturally very shy and introverted; however, one night she climbed up on top of a little hill on their property. She was six or seven then. As she looked up into the night sky, she was thrilled by what she saw – billions of twinkling stars, twinkling just for her, she thought. That very moment, she knew God and His Son loved her because they had created all that beauty for her and, yes, for all children like her. The experience led her to know that she is loved not only by her family but also by God and His precious Son.
