CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union to Give $12,000 in Scholarships for Students

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union is awarding $12,000 in scholarships to smart, motivated students as part of the credit union’s ongoing commitment to education.
 
For more than 20 years, CommonWealth One has been awarding scholarships to student members to help them further their education and pave a more affordable path to their future. 
 
The scholarships are for students to use for their education in the 2020-2021 academic year.
 
Applications are due March 31, 2020. The scholarships are open to all CommonWealth One members. To be eligible, the applicant must be the primary member on their own account, and be a graduating high school senior or a college/university student attending a fully-accredited college, university, or other institution of higher learning.
 
Applications are evaluated by a committee and judged based on an essay, extracurricular activities and community involvement, honors and awards, employment or internships, and academic excellence and achievement.
 
The scholarships are as follows:
 
Kathryn R. Coleman Scholarships
 
Two (2) CommonWealth One Kathryn R. Coleman Scholarships are available, named in honor of CommonWealth One’s past President and CEO Kathryn R. Coleman.  The Kathryn R. Coleman Community Leader Scholarship and the Kathryn R. Coleman Financial Capability Scholarship are both available. Each scholarship is $2,500. 
                                  
Harrisonburg High School Scholarship
 
This scholarship is open to graduating seniors from Harrisonburg High School who plan to enroll full time (minimum 15 credits per semester) in an accredited college, career or technical school. The scholarship value is $1,000.  
 
In addition, CommonWealth One is already evaluating scholarship applications in Alexandria for the T.C. Williams High School Scholarships with the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria. Those scholarships will total $6,000.
