Philips named a major player in IDC MarketScape for U.S. Population Health Management

Philips is recognized for its customizable solution and ability to provide care across the acuity continuum

The demands of population health management are ever-changing, with at-risk contracts continuing to grow in volume and complexity. As healthcare organizations work to address the needs of patients across the acuity spectrum with continuous and personalized care, they increasingly rely on solutions to coordinate care delivery and identify gaps in care. As the market matures, it is critical population health management vendors not only have a consistent vision to support their customers’ strategic goals, but also have the agility and flexibility to keep pace with such an evolving landscape.

In the IDC MarketScape: U.S. Population Health Management 2019 Vendor Assessment,* IDC analysts comprehensively assessed population health management technology providers, evaluating their ability to support customer success in managing at-risk contracts and providing proactive care delivery.

“As the technology for population health management becomes commoditized, it is important to look at other critical success factors. This IDC MarketScape takes into consideration the vendor’s road map and customer progress enabling population health success. The results represent those differentiators" says Cynthia Burghard, research director, IDC Health Insights. The report assesses healthcare providers based on buyer feedback as well as quantitative and qualitative market data compiled by the IDC MarketScape.

The IDC MarketScape identified Philips as a Major Player in today’s market, noting “Philips’ philosophy of being an open ecosystem supporting a variety of partner and proprietary technology is enabled by HealthSuite, Philips’ digital platform. The platform provides the key technical components to enable the development of cloud-based consumer and healthcare solutions. Philips is positioning itself as the system of engagement to deliver on the quadruple aim.” The report added, “Philips’ HealthSuite is a differentiator in the market among population health management technology suppliers. Having a single digital platform to meet the needs across the continuum of acuity gives clients the ability to leverage other Philips assets as well as incorporate their own proprietary or third-party assets.”

According to the report, “with many years of experience and developed expertise, Philips aggregates, normalizes, and further curates a diverse set of data from its clients and is fully engaged in national efforts to improve interoperability. Clients can access the analytic capabilities provided by Philips as well as use their own or a third-party analytic application.” The IDC MarketScape says to consider Philips when “your organization’s existing or long-term strategy includes caring for patients across the continuum of acuity in settings of the patient’s choice when they need services. Healthcare organizations that have invested in HealthSuite and want their population health management technology to reside on the same platform as other Philips assets.”

“Hospitals and health systems have already invested so much into their technology infrastructure. Population health management tools should augment this brick-and-mortar technology and seamlessly integrate with existing solutions in an agnostic way,” said Cindy Gaines, Clinical Leader, Population Health Management, Philips. “At Philips, we work to resolve data challenges stunting population health’s growth by offering a comprehensive data foundation that is necessary for creating a complete patient view. Only then can we effectively engage with patients on a continuous basis and improve clinical and financial outcomes.”

At the HIMSS 2020 Global Health Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, FL, Cynthia Burghard will be co-presenting with Cindy Gaines, Clinical Leader, Population Health Management, Philips on “The Future of Population Health Management” at the Philips booth (#2701), on Tuesday, March 10th at 3:30pm ET.
