BEIJING – WEBWIRE

PPG (NYSE:PPG) announced that its COLORFUL COMMUNITIES=11.9px® program received the 2019 Charity Project Award at the ninth China Charity Festival for its outstanding contributions in the field of public and community welfare. PPG was the only chemical company to be honored with this award at the ninth China Charity Festival.

In addition, Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, corporate and government affairs, Asia Pacific, was named 2019 Charity Person of the Year for her leadership in corporate social responsibility. She was the only representative from the chemical industry to receive the award.

The annual China Charity Festival is one of the most influential events in the field of public and community welfare in China. Its goal is to promote philanthropic spirit and behavior, and it serves as a platform for in-depth dialogue, cooperation and communication. The two-day festival in January 2020 gathered more than 1,100 representatives from public welfare, business, politics, academia and other circles to discuss new models and thinking about public welfare through speeches, dialogues, sharing, initiatives and other forums.

The Colorful Communities program – PPG’s signature initiative for supporting communities – aims to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. Through the program, PPG volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products to help transform community assets. Since 2015, PPG has completed more than 270 Colorful Communities projects, impacting more than 5.3 million people in 39 countries.

PPG has completed Colorful Communities projects in many cities throughout China, including Tianjin, Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Wuhu, Kunshan and Zhangjiagang. Activities included renovating the Wuhu School for the Blind in Anhui province and Lida Middle School at Songjiang District in Shanghai. PPG volunteers also refurbished the Huangge Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Guangzhou and revitalized Shepherd’s Field Children’s Village in Wuqing, Tianjin. These and other projects not only improved and beautified the communities, they also helped increase the quality of life of their residents.

Yan has advocated for, and taken an active role in, each of PPG’s community activities in China. In addition to implementing Colorful Communities events across the country, she planned and initiated the PPG University Talent Power Program. This initiative integrates scholarships, campus recruitment efforts and employment guidance to support higher education and talent cultivation in China.

“We are proud to receive the 2019 Charity Project Award in recognition of our initiatives in China, which are focused on education, community engagement and employee engagement,” said Yan. “In addition to financial support and the use of our products, we encourage our employees to help protect and beautify the world through practical action.”

Hunter Lee, PPG director, corporate communications, community engagement and events, Asia Pacific, was a presenter at the festival’s corporate social responsibility leadership forum. He shared his views on how to leverage PPG’s experience in implementing its corporate social responsibility projects and organizing Colorful Communities projects.

PPG’s global community engagement efforts and the PPG Foundation aim to bring color and brightness to PPG communities around the world. PPG invested more than $9 million in 2018, supporting hundreds of organizations across 28 countries. By investing in educational opportunities, the company helps grow today’s skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in fields related to coatings and manufacturing.
