Climate ranking drives performance

Tieto and EVRY have been working on systematically reducing CO2 emissions caused by their operations for several years. A newly published ranking gives additional motivation for further climate actions in the combined company TietoEVRY.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a non-profit organization that aims to help businesses and government get a better overview of their own climate impact. It publishes a global yearly ranking of companies’ environmental status with a global framework. Both Tieto and EVRY have had CDP and climate related activities high on its agenda already before the merger.

The rating measures how good companies are at reducing and reporting CO2 emissions. In 2019’s ranking, EVRY came on top with grade A for the fourth year in a row, Tieto reached the next best grade B.

The good results provide motivation for continuous focus on climate actions in the new company.

“The climate challenge needs to be on everyone’s agenda”, says Kia Haring, Head of Communications and Sustainability at TietoEVRY. “We have started the process for drafting a new sustainability strategy for the combined TietoEVRY with stretched targets to minimize our climate impact.”

“Digitization enables companies to reduce their climate impacts. This is a transition which TietoEVRY can help with”, says Haring.

“At TietoEVRY, we will continue to investigate and measure how our digital solutions and products support our customers in decreasing their carbon footprints.”

Transparency on the sustainability efforts is important for TietoEVRY employees

“I am happy to partake in the sustainability change in the company, especially since I have a personal passion for the environment”, says Angelica Hornesjø, Senior System Consultant in TietoEVRY.

Like many of her colleagues, she is concerned about how the company can cut emissions. That is why she believes that the CDP is important.

“Participating in the CDP ranking allows us to be open about our emissions and have specific goals to reduce our negative impact on the climate. We all have a responsibility to transition to a low-carbon society.”
