Budding Latino Writer proudly showcases his works of art

Richard (Rick) Steven Vasquez is a multifaceted artist. He finished composing twenty songs and produced artworks that he stored in an art gallery. Some of these artworks include the characters and relatives in his first book “Dreams, Sweet Dreams of You” and several photographs of his family. In 2001, he released a psychological thriller titled “Séance.” Recently, he published his second book, “A Mountain Within” in January 2019. All of these achievements indeed show that Rick never really runs out of creative juices. In fact, he is just in time to launch his own website.
 
Rick’s website is a repository of all his achievements. It is his way of encouraging everybody to know more about him. Throughout his website, one can experience a quest of love and forgiveness. As Rick puts, one needs “to accept the dysfunction of people and not to adapt to others’ mistakes, but to learn to forgive these people and understand their growth of life.” These lines are exemplified in one of his books, “A Mountain Within.” The book is based on a true American story about a dysfunctional family who finds room in their hearts for love and forgiveness. “This story reminds us that we have each other to help and support and make rough roads in life more approachable,” says Rick. “This story allows us to share the love and anger of an American family who learned to survive dysfunctional parenting, extreme adversities of social injustices, abandonment, death, alcohol abuse and most important forgiveness.”
 
Meanwhile, one story that will strike the readers most can be felt in his first book, “Dreams, Sweet Dreams of You.” It is actually a survival love story between Rick’s grandparents, Rafella and Juan, and contains themes of love, social injustices, bad decision making, compassion, and the most important of all: forgiveness. The story took place in 1914 in a town called Sonora Town located at the heart of Los Angeles, also known as La Placita.  The story contains every man’s sense of ambitions and every woman’s ability to survive, all in a setting of dishevelled political madness.  As a Latino, this story helped Rick see different aspects of the measurements of life, such as all the qualities of a good heart, the enjoyment of being kind to all, and loving one’s elders and respecting their attempts of providing lessons of love.
