RTDNA opens 2020 Kaleidoscope Awards

“Radio and television broadcasting are incredible and vibrant industries that at their core are about journalism, localism and serving and reflecting American communities" Diane Sutter said on behalf of the National Association of Broadcasters at a January hearing on promoting diversity in media. But “without a doubt, we are not where we need to be and more can be done to increase diversity in broadcasting and across all media.”

RTDNA’s annual assessments of diversity in local broadcast newsrooms has shown a shrinking but persistent gap remains for representation of people of color.

RTDNA is dedicated to increasing diversity in newsrooms and offering strategies and resources to improve coverage of diverse communities.

As part of RTDNA’s commitment to diversity in newsrooms and in news coverage, RTDNA honors outstanding achievements in the coverage of diversity with the Kaleidoscope Awards, accepting entries now.

The Kaleidoscope Awards are presented annually to news organizations that show an ongoing commitment to covering the diversity of the communities they serve. The awards recognize excellence in covering issues of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Winners will be announced in July and recognized at the 2020 Excellence in Journalism Conference, Sept. 10-12, 2020, in Washington, DC.
