Ocean Conservancy Invites the Public to Join #TeamOcean at Miami Super Bowl LIVE Booth

Interactive Booth in Super Bowl LIVE Environmental Village to Feature Virtual Reality, Ocean Trivia, Prizes, and More

WASHINGTON, DC – WEBWIRE

From January 25 through February 1, Ocean Conservancy will bring the awe and wonder of the ocean to Miami Super Bowl LIVE through an interactive booth inviting the public to join #TeamOcean. Situated on the edge of Miami’s Biscayne Bay, the booth will serve as the anchor of Super Bowl LIVE’s environmental village. Visitors will be able to explore the ocean through a virtual reality experience; relax from a long day at the beach in our Florida Lounge; take in beautiful videos and imagery showcasing our work in Florida and beyond; snap a selfie in front of our giant #TeamOcean banner; learn more about their favorite ocean animals; and play “Truth or Dare” for a chance at ocean-themed prizes.

“No matter who you’re cheering for at the Super Bowl, we can all join Team Ocean,” said J.P. Brooker, Senior Manager and Policy Counsel for Ocean Conservancy’s Florida Conservation program. “As any Floridian can tell you, a healthy ocean matters. It provides the air we breathe, the food we eat, and for many Floridians it’s both our playground and our cultural touchstone. We hope that our booth will encourage Miami citizens and visitors alike to join the movement for a healthy ocean.”

Ocean Conservancy launched the #TeamOcean campaign at the start of the 2019 NFL season to inspire and inform the millions of people who love football and the Super Bowl about the role a healthy ocean plays in the places we love. The launch coincided with Ocean Conservancy’s 34th annual International Coastal Cleanup, which has mobilized more than 15 million volunteers to remove nearly 315 million pounds of trash from beaches and waterways around the world.

As the official Ocean Partner of the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee, Ocean Conservancy has used the platform to continue generating conservation wins for the ocean. Ocean Conservancy created the #SuperCleanupChallenge to remove or divert 54 tons of plastic and other waste from Florida’s coast and waterways, and has led a number of beach cleanups in support of this effort. In December 2019, alongside the City of Miami, Ocean Conservancy launched the Shores Forward partnership, which will focus on improving water quality, marine wildlife, education and outreach, marine debris and carbon pollution in Miami. This month, Ocean Conservancy also released a three-part documentary series and an interactive website telling the story of the connection between South Florida’s ocean and Everglades environments and exploring the region’s unique environmental challenges and opportunities.

For Florida’s ocean and coasts, this is an all-hands-on-deck moment. Harmful algal blooms plague Florida’s waterways. Pollution and water quality problems seem to flow everywhere. And impacts from ever-present threats like ocean trash, overdevelopment and carbon emissions are visible at nearly every turn.

If we work together, there’s a lot that we can do to tackle these problems. Joining #TeamOcean is the first step.
