Call for entry: IDFAcademy Summer School 2020

Our annual talent development program is open to emerging filmmakers looking to elevate their script or rough cut. Submit your application by February 20, 2020.

We are now accepting applications for IDFAcademy Summer School, which returns for its 13th edition June 29 - July 4, 2020 in Amsterdam. This rigorous training program is open to directors making their first or second feature documentary. Under the guidance of experienced tutors, IDFAcademy Summer School supports a total of 16 creative documentary projects: 8 in the script development phase, and 8 in the rough cut phase.

Past Summer School tutors include renowned directors such as Pirjo Honkasalo, Pawel Lozinski, Kim Longinotto, Victor Kossakovsky, and Alan Berliner; editors such as Gladys Joujou, Ollie Huddleston, Jesper Osmund, Menno Boerema, and Niels Pagh Andersen; producer Gema Juárez Allen; and cinematographer Ed Lachman.

Acclaimed films from recent Summer School editions include Sundance 2020 premieres The Earth is Blue as an Orange (dir. Iryna Tsilyk) and Once Upon a Time in Venezuela (dir. Anabel Rodríguez), which both received support from the IDFA Bertha Fund, as well as The Painter and the Thief (dir. Benjamin Ree). Additionally, eight Summer School films premiered at IDFA 2019, including Speak So I Can See You (dir. Marija Stojnić) and My Darling Supermarket (dir. Tali Yankelevich).
