Washington Institute for Business, Government & Society to Host Inaugural ’Global Sports Conference’

Washington D.C.-based venue to bring together leaders from across the industry and its governance to highlight sports integrity and best practices in the modern era

Washington D.C., U.S.A. – WEBWIRE

The Washington Institute for Business, Government & Society, a global nonprofit organization created to bridge critical gaps by facilitating collaboration between public and private sector leaders, has proudly announced the launch of its inaugural Global Sports Conference (‘WIGSC’ – http://GlobalSportsConference.com).

The Conference will be held on June 18th and 19th, 2020 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, on the periphery of the nation’s capital. It will draw together sport industry experts from across the myriad of its sectors. Participants will include leading athletes, sports team owners, corporate sponsors, and talented thought leaders. Each stakeholder will share intelligence and opinion on reformative actions necessary in an ‘industry’ facing constant challenges in the realm of integrity. The conference will foster critical dialogue and ultimately highlight the role of sports in accelerating positive social change and inspiring a better world future.

Contemporary issues such as ‘Integrity and Ethics’, ‘Infrastructure and Security’ and, amidst the frenetic breakout of eSports, ‘Technology and Data’ are but a few examples of the high-level panel discussions that the Global Sports Conference will host.

Members of the Washington Institute Global Sports Council, the conference advisory board, are confident that the conference will generate calls to action resulting in lasting change for the industry.

According to Pedro Pinto, WIGSC council-member and former CNN International Sports Anchor, “The integrity of sports has taken considerable damage over the course of the last few decades. I commend the Washington Institute for holding such an immersive venue, an important series of discussions for each attending influencer to contribute to, in the spirit of being part of the change sports can bring to society in future. I look forward to prospectively hosting”.

The Washington Institute holds a firm belief that sports is an ultimate ‘unifier’, capable of showcasing the great potential of our globalizing society, interconnected with modern business, governance and culture. However, critical issues such as corruption, doping, and data protection will have ramifications across the sector.

Vicente Fox, member of the Washington Institute Council of Advisors and former President of Mexico, hailed the focus of the conference. “Sports has reflected the societal issues of the day for generations and corruption in sports is indicative of corruption elsewhere, in industry and in governance. We all have a role to play in ensuring accountability and taking decisive action to set a greater example through sports, for our next generation to follow”.

Limited in attendance to 400 elite senior decision-makers and influencers across world sports, business, politics and culture, the Washington Institute plans to host its Global Sports Conference biennially, responsibly measuring the reforms proposed at each confenence by their implementation to follow.

Washington Institute for Business, Government and Society Founder and CEO, the Hon. James P. Moore concluded that, “Here in 2020, unquestionably a time of particular political and social mistrust, the Washington Institute is privileged to bring together leaders from business, government, and society from across the sports industry. We will be working together in June, serving in our capacity as both a convener and an honest broker in bridging gaps and forging solutions that will carry the industry and its greater society forward for a potentially brighter future. We look forward to playing these roles in this accountable and highly visible process”.
